69th Annual Convention of the STAI - 2008 was held at the Rama International WelcomGroup Sheraton Hotel at Aurangabad on 21st to 23rd August,2008. Mr Lalit Vashishta - The Director of M/s Diva Envitec (Europe) Ltd gave the Synopsis of the "Filtration Technology Seminar" held at Kashmir. Filtration areas for improving sugar processing were discussed.
- Filtration of Cane juice for elimination of suspended solids.
- Clear juice for suspended solid, colour, ash, turbidity, etc.
- Clarifier underflow treatment.
- Filtrate from vacuum filtrate.
- Syrup filtration for removal of suspended solids and bagacillo etc.
- Organic sugar and other new product development will also need filtration processes.
Goals to achieve
- New Hybrid technologies should be tried
- Reduce ‘Syrup’ COLOUR < 200 I.U.
- Remove Inorganics that largely constitute ASH
- Remove TURBIDITY to match refined grade standards
- NO RECRYSTALLISATION
- Continue the in-complete research started worldwide-Lot of data available
- Employ new membranes and configurations for economical processing
- Achieve Sucrose crystallization in its purest form,
- Industry support to carry out such research based projects
